Overview
Connecting Wisewand to your WordPress site lets you publish articles directly from Wisewand β choosing the author, category, and permissions for each piece of content. This guide walks you through every step of the setup process.
Before you start
You need admin access (or at least Editor-level access) to your WordPress site.
Decide which WordPress user account you want Wisewand to publish under. You can use an existing account or create a dedicated one.
π‘ Pro tip: We recommend using a pseudonym or a dedicated account name rather than your personal admin username. Articles will be published under this account name, so keep that in mind when choosing it.
Step-by-step: connecting Wisewand to WordPress
Step 1 β Open the Connection settings in Wisewand
In the Wisewand interface, click Connection in the bottom-left corner.
Click Add a Connection.
Step 2 β Fill in your connection details
Enter a Connection name to help you identify this site (for example, the name of your website).
Enter the URL of your WordPress site. Go to your site, copy the URL from your browser, and paste it into this field.
Enter the Username of the WordPress account you want to use for publishing.
Step 3 β Generate an Application Password in WordPress
To connect Wisewand securely, you need to create an Application Password inside WordPress. This is a special password that only grants access to the Wisewand application β it is completely separate from your regular WordPress login password.
In your WordPress dashboard, go to β‘οΈ Users β‘οΈ Profile (or Edit User for the account you selected).
Scroll all the way down to the Application Passwords section.
In the New Application Password Name field, enter a recognisable label such as Wisewand.
Click Add New Application Password.
WordPress will generate and display your application password. Copy it immediately β it will only be shown once.
β οΈ Important: Once you navigate away from this page, WordPress will not show the application password again. Make sure you copy it before closing or refreshing the page.
Step 4 β Save your connection in Wisewand
Paste the application password you just copied into the Application Password field in Wisewand.
Click Save to finalise your connection.
β Your connection is now active! Wisewand will automatically sync your WordPress categories and authors.
What happens after you connect
Once your connection is saved, Wisewand will synchronise the following data from your WordPress site:
Categories β all existing categories from your site will be available to assign to articles.
Authors β all user accounts on your site will be available so you can choose who an article is published under.
Permissions β you can set specific publishing permissions for each article you create.
π You can connect multiple WordPress sites by repeating this process and adding a new connection for each one.
Security note
Application Passwords are designed to be safe and limited in scope. The Wisewand team has no access to your WordPress site or your regular login credentials. The application password only allows Wisewand to interact with your site on your behalf β nothing more.
